Ministries of First Baptist
Preschool
- Our Vision
- At First Baptist, we celebrate each child as a gift from God and offer a loving environment.
The First Baptist preschool ministry serves children from birth through kindergarten and their families by providing a safe, clean and happy Christian environment for the preschool-age child when he is at church. FBC provides a nurturing environment where each child begins to learn about God's love through Bible stories, songs, and play as we minister to the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual needs of the child through developmentally appropriate activities. These opportunities led by caring and loving adults are laying a spiritual foundation that will lead each child to a deeper learning and understanding of Jesus and His great love.
This ministry also seeks to support and encourage parents and guardians who have the blessing and responsibility of raising their children.
- Sunday Morning
- Preschool Sunday School
Our desire in preschool Sunday School is to help our preschoolers learn about God, Jesus, the natural world, families, others, and self thru' age-appropriate Bible stories, songs, and activities. Caring loving adults build a spiritual foundation that will lead preschoolers to deeper learning and understanding of God's love.
Classes for Birth-Kindergarten meet at 9:45 on the second floor in the Preschool Suite.
Extended Teaching Time (ETC)
ETC is an extension of Sunday School for preschoolers during the Worship hour. Planned activities continue with the Sunday School emphasis.

Children
- Our Vision
- The vision of the Children's Sunday School department is to enrich the lives of children, empower them with God's Holy Word, and help them grow as they develop a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Sunday Morning
- Our children's Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. for Grades 1 & 2, Grades 3 & 4, and Grades 5 & 6. Our curriculum offers a well-rounded foundation of biblical truths as children learn scripture, books of the Bible, develop Bible skills, and much more. The classes offer individual and group participation and teaching.
- Tween Scene
- The 'Tween Scene is a unique Sunday
School class for 5th and 6th graders. The
curriculum that is used is built entirely
for the "in between" age child~thus the 'tween
scene. The Bible study focuses on real Bible
heroes and helps children know how to make good
choices, and face difficult situations all the
while being scripturally sound and Bible based.
The class decor is "really cool" with colorful
Christian posters and "neat" seating to give
them a comfortable atmosphere but not the
typical school-type table and chairs.
- VBS 2010

Special Friends
- History
- The Special Friends Sunday School Class is a special needs class. It was the idea of Lamar King--the Minister of Education at First Baptist Church in 1991. This class met in the "Old Fire House" across the street from the church every Sunday morning. The original enrollment was 8 members (all are still attending) with 3 or 4 "workers" (the people who work with them) and 3 leaders. Today we have a faithful attendance of 38 with 8-10 "workers" and 5 leaders.
Missions
- Missions Overview
- First Baptist Church has always been a mission-minded church. This has been demonstrated through it's involvement in starting ten churches in Macon County and one in Georgia.
Through mission education as well as missions involvement, we have continued to obey Jesus' Great Commission, "Go Ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
Members at First Baptist Church are involved in community, state, national, and international missions activities. The Woman's Missionary Union and the Baptist Men (a.k.a The Brotherhood) offer opportunities for involvement for all age groups.
- Helping Hands
- Helping Hands is a Baptist Men's organization who help with disaster relief ,construction, and repairs needed for our church members who need special routine 'handyman' type repairs. Call the church office to request assistance.
- CareNet--3rd and 1
- First Baptist supports the local food bank, CareNet. The third Sunday of each month, canned food and non-perishable food is collected and donated to CareNet.
- Pregnancy Center
- First Baptist supports the Smokey Mountain Pregnancy Center
through the baby-bottle campaign.
- Kid's Place
- Picking on the Square
- Each month during the summer, Franklin hosts Pickin' on the Square just down the street from First Baptist. With hundreds of people literally at our doorstep, we cannot pass up such an incredible opportunity to show them the love of our Lord! Come join us as we serve the children of our community through balloon animals, face painting, and crafts!
- Free Market
- We live in tough times. In order to meet the needs of the community, First Baptist provides free quality clothing, household items, and toys.
- Hiker's Breakfast
- Franklin, NC is at mile 106.6 on the Appalachian Trail. Each Spring, about one thousand hikers come into town. Since FBC is in the middle of town next to a variety of hotels, we have taken the opportunity to feed hikers a free breakfast here at the church. For the past few years over 300 hikers come to the twenty-one day event. Because of the breakfast, hikers from all over the world get fed physically and spiritually. Our theme is Mark 8:8, "They ate and they were satisfied."
- Women's Missionary Union
- Woman on Mission is the organization for the women of FBC to learn and grow in mission endeavors. Each group is named after a missionary or person who was a mission pioneer. Currently, we have three circles:
Men and Women on Mission meets the first Thursday night each month at 6:30 PM. Carol Waldroop is the leader.
Hyldah Shepherd meets the first Tuesday each month at 1:30 PM. Mildred Swafford is the leader.
Linda Johnson
meets the second Thursday each month at 2:00 PM.
